We are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by the Trussell Trust. Find out how to get emergency food and other support. Make a food donation or find out about volunteering.
The research shows that households who have been referred to a food bank have an average weekly income after housing costs of just £50. They’re struggling to afford to buy the absolute essentials that we all need to eat, stay warm and dry, and keep clean – with 94% in real destitution.
“I’ve used the food bank because I was on such a low income before I got my disability benefit. I had a mental breakdown because basically the amount they give me doesn’t cover the costs of my rent.”
Almost three-quarters of people at food banks have a health issue, or live with someone who does. More than half of people at food banks live in households affected by a mental health problem, with anxiety and depression the most common.
Thanks to you, we’ve already made great progress and thousands of people in crisis are able to access support every year. But now it’s time to say enough is enough. This research shows clearly what the next government needs to do. Will you help us create change?
