The Fourth Week

17th April 2020

The number of clients receiving parcels from the Foodbank was less than last week but a lot of other work has gone on in the background.

Many people who regularly donate food to the foodbank are visiting the shops less often and so have chosen to make gifts of money. These gifts have to be translated into food and so Foodbank volunteers have had to visit supermarkets to replenish the stocks.

Another feature of the times we are going through is that more people choose to telephone the Foodbank before attending in person. So that no urgent calls were missed answerphone messages had to be checked over the long Easter weekend.

As with any other organisation that accepts donations from the public, the Foodbank has to be accountable for what it receives and what it spends. Records have to be kept and accounts updated. Tablets gifted by the Trussell Trust have made it easier to complete these administrative activities.

This week the Foodbank was lucky to have its first cardboard collection. In the past few weeks, disposing of cardboard boxes etc. has been a problem but from now on the Council will make a cardboard collection every Thursday.

Organisations and individuals continue to donate generously to the work the Foodbank undertakes. As always though, sometimes specific needs do not match what is in stock.
