A Busy Week

25th April 2020

The Foodbank has distributed a larger than normal number of food parcels this week. Some of the growth in numbers is an expected outcome of the lockdown. People who have worked for years are finding themselves unemployed and are struggling to make ends meet. Many families are bewildered to find themselves in this position. Fortunately, the Foodbank is able to give them some help in coping.

Given this increase in demand, it is good to see that donors have been very generous this week. \the donors range from individual who offer food or money to large supermarkets including Sainsbury’s, Morrison’s and Tesco. As a ‘medium-sized’ foodbank, Oswestry and Borders will be receiving a weekly delivery from the Tesco Liverpool warehouse. This is delivered courtesy of British Gas. Deliveries have to be processed, of course, and this has kept the stock room volunteers busy.

A new collection point has been opened for the duration of the current crisis. This is located at St Oswald’s Vicarage, St Oswald’s Vicarage, Penylan Lane, Oswestry, SY11 2AJ. The usual collection points at Sainsbury’s in Oswestry and Tesco in Ellesmere will continue to operate.

In these troubled times, people have to work together and the Foodbank was called upon to help out this week. Two hundred disposable aprons were donated to Plas Ffynnon surgery as they were running out!
