Busy but Safe

1st May 2020

This week has been a busy week for the Foodbank both in terms of parcels delivered to clients and food received. On Monday the Foodbank broke its record for the number of parcels distributed in one session.

It is important that people coming to the Foodbank are able to distinguish between other clients and Foodbank volunteers. This week a new set of tee shirts arrived and below is a photo of a volunteer modelling one:

The safety of volunteers is also an important issue. Face masks are now available for any volunteer who wants to wear one. Additionally, this week, face shields, a door screen and lever taps have been sourced using funds from a Shropshire Council grant. The lever taps make hands free use of sinks in the kitchen and toilet much easier. They were quickly and efficiently fitted by plumbers from D. Powell plumbers in Oswestry.

Companies and individuals continue to be very generous. This week Costa donated smoothies and juices. A weekly delivery from Liverpool Tesco brought to Oswestry by British Gas continues to operate.

This generosity is important given the current situation. The Trussell Trust reports its network’s busiest ever period, with 81% more emergency food parcels being given out across the UK, including 122% more parcels going to children, compared to the same period in 2019.
