Preparing for the New Normal

13th June 2020

A more usual level of demand this week has allowed time to complete some tasks in preparation for the future including some clearing of space and cleaning. Although some lockdown restrictions are being loosened, social distancing rules remain in place and the model of fewer volunteers and one client in at a time will continue, with more deliveries offered to those who are shielding, poorly or in the outlying villages with limited means.

British Gas began a 12-week partnership with the Trussell Trust in April https://www.trusselltrust.org/2020/04/03/british-gas-partners-trussell-trust-help-food-banks-coronavirus-crisis/. This partnership has enabled food from the Tesco warehouse in Liverpool to reach Oswestry. In addition, the British Gas drivers have also taken parcels from the Foodbank to people in need. The Foodbank will receive more help from British Gas for another 5 weeks. On behalf of the team, the manager Liz Jermy extends a heartfelt thanks and deep appreciation for the amazing help they have given.

As the special arrangements put in place for the period of lockdown begin to come to a close it is good to report other generous gifts. Stans supermarket charity has gifted £550 to be spent in-store. B&M has donated £1500. Ellesmere Rotary has donated £150 to be spent on items to help the homeless, those in refuges and the elderly community. 300 Easter Eggs from the League of Friends will be delivered on Monday!
